The best time to visit the Badrinath temple is from April/May to June and September to October/November. The city receives heavy snowfall in November due to which doors of temples get closed for 6 months approx. till April. Badrinath is a Hindu holy town and a nagar panchayat in Chamoli district in the state of Uttarakhand, India. It is located at an elevation of 11204 feet (3415 mts), in the shadow of Nilkanth Peak and between Nar-Narayana Hills.

Things to Remember Before Going on the Badrinath Yatra

  • Carry a kit of the basic emergency medicines in light weight backpack.
  • Get health check up before the trek.
  • Try to consume boiled food, cooked or fried food, Carry a mosquito/insect repellent, Sunscreen cream
  • Prepare youself mentally and physically before the trekking.
  • At least a month before the Char Dham Yatra, it is advisable to start preparatory exercises
  • Carry heavy woolens, including thermal body warmers, raincoats, sleeping bags, blankets, water-proof shoes with sufficient grips, torch
  • Wear comfortable clothes, especially women are advised to avoid sarees and opt for salwar kameez or trousers.
  • If you want to travel through Kandi, Ponies and Palki make sure that the prior booking is done at Gaurikund/Sonprayag booking counter with the registered and verified one.

Badrinath temple open for pilgrims every year in the month of April-May. Exact date is decided on auspicious day of Basant Panchami by the priests. Badrinath is throng by pilgrims during the whole yatra season (May to Oct). Since located in high Himalayas, one should avoid visiting Badrinath during monsoon season. May, June, Sept & October are some best months to visit Badrinath.

Badrinath is located in the lap of nature, surrounded by beautiful hills and mountains. The weather at Badrinath Dham remains pleasant during summers till June. Monsoon season is rainy and winters receives heavy snowfall.

Registration for Badrinath or Chardham Yatra can be done at various counters free of cost. Or you can do it online too. Registration counters are available at Haridwar, Rishikesh and Pandukeshwar. It is advise to register at earliest possible either online or at the counter.

Number of pilgrims visiting Badrinath depends upon the season and weather conditions. Huge pilgrims turnout can be seen from opening of shrine till June end. Its goes from 20,000 to 30,000 per day. During monsoon pilgrim stats drop down to 3000-4000 daily. But from September till closing of the shrine, more than 10,000 pilgrims visit per day.

Badrinath is located at 540 kms from Delhi and 320 kms from Haridwar. Badrinath Yatra can be starts either from Delhi or Haridwar. Badrinath is well connected by metalled road with Haridwar & Delhi. One can drive to Badrinath easily. Other modes of travel include Bus and Train. Flights are available from Delhi to Dehradun (Jolly Grant Aiport) which is 311 kms away from Badrinath. One can also travel to Rishikesh which is only 20 kms from the airport.
