The pilgrimage of the Char Dham starts with Yamunotri as the yatra is preferred to be done clockwise. Yamunotri's opening date lies on Akshay Tritiya and closes on the auspicious day of bhai dooj where goddess Yamuna is taken to kharsali.

3. Gangotri Dham

The temple, which is one of the four shrines that make up the Char Dham Yatra, a pilgrimage considered to be one of the holiest in India, is dedicated to the goddess Ganga and is situated at an altitude of 10,000 feet. The temple is set to open on the auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritiya. There is a special puja before the opening. The temple is closed one day after the occasion of Diwali.
